Inspired by the elegance of 18th-century Queen Anne design, the Strix varia chairs are handcrafted from select tiger maple, chosen for its striking figure and warm, luminous grain. The name Strix varia — Latin for barred owl — reflects Brennan’s appreciation for the natural world and the quiet strength of heirloom craftsmanship.
Each chair is built with traditional joinery, refined by hand, and finished to bring out the depth and character of the wood. Available as armchairs or side chairs, the Strix varia line represents the highest expression of Simpson Fine Furniture’s dedication to legacy and artistry.
