Alvarium Dining Table in White Pine
The Alvarium table takes its name from the Latin for “beehive,” a reflection of the geometric surface pattern that animates its top. Inspired by rustic English furniture, Brennan developed the design using a precise layout grid, a plunge router, and a crown molding bit — an inventive process that produced a textured field of interlocking hexagons that play with light and shadow.
Featured in Fine Woodworking No. 291 (July/August 2022), the Alvarium table pairs its patterned top with a chamfered base and circular stretcher, balancing visual complexity with structural clarity. Crafted in pine with traditional joinery, it exemplifies Brennan Simpson’s pursuit of heirloom durability and thoughtful innovation within historical tradition.
